Replacing a toilet can seem like a daunting task, but with some basic knowledge and the right tools, it can be a straightforward process. Here are the general steps to replace a toilet:
Turn off the water supply and flush the toilet to empty the tank and bowl. Use a plunger to force out as much water as possible. Disconnect the water supply line from the bottom of the tank. Remove the nuts and bolts that secure the toilet to the floor flange. Lift the toilet straight up and off the flange, taking care not to tip it over. Remove the wax ring and any remaining debris from the flange. Fit a new wax ring onto the flange, making sure it is centered over the drain opening. Carefully lower the new toilet onto the flange, aligning the bolts with the holes in the base of the toilet. Press down firmly to compress the wax ring and seat the toilet. Install the washers and nuts onto the bolts and tighten them evenly, being careful not to overtighten and crack the toilet base. Reconnect the water supply line to the tank and turn on the water supply. Check for leaks and adjust the water level as needed.
